The dystopian future is now Sham Wow! Spaghetti strapped Cinderella girls With neon shoulder pieces Abound! The hounds from hell Sniff and growl but finally cower Towers of steel and glass Erupt from the ground Like redwoods And tarnish in the un-day sun To rot and crumble After sunset After sunset Breezes dry our moistened lips Sips of gin and Jager Drip, drip, drip To form Stalagmite memories That jar the senses Into dusty mason jars Apothecary specimens From a bygone time For a distant future Bloodlines From a knife Run deep Deeper than a bathyscaphe Where bug-eyed fish EXPLODE! In luminescent darkness Tourniquets Are foreplay toys Paper cuts, a promise Salty, copper-flavored Skin And ink And razor marks Burns And tears And tender kisses The mother’s milk Of pleasure The threat The fear The stark reality Reflected In the million Broken mirror shards Across the fetid ground Fait accompli!
